I, Christopher “Kit” Silavong, am a recent graduate of the Walther Cronkite School of Journalism at Arizona State University, with an emphasis on digital reporting. I am also a first-generation university graduate.

I had three amazing internships with two incredible publications while at ASU: the Arizona Republic / azcentral.com where I did breaking news and watchdog reporting, and the Arizona Capitol Times where I reported on the state politics.

More recently I was a Digital News Producer with Arizona’s Family 3TV CBS5 during the Good Morning Arizona show.

I am mainly a "print" journalist, however I also love shooting and editing video, as well as producing and cutting together audio. I also appreciate the art of photojournalism, so much so that I took up photography.

My path to journalism and reporting was long and unexpected.

While in high school, the first time I considered journalism — which I didn't see it as journalism — was after reading a column in a video game magazine. The author gave readers advice on finding a job reviewing video games. That blew my mind: I could be a video game reviewer and get paid for it. However, I did not think to join any of the student newspapers at my middle and high schools because my writing skills, at that time, were inadequate.

Flash forward, I figured out that I wanted a career in journalism and went to community college and transferred to ASU. It was the best decision and the greatest experience of my life thus far.

I hope for many more great and fulfilling experiences in the future.
